Indonesia offers Christians safe havens
One of Indonesia's largest Muslim organisations has
offered hundreds of its buildings as safe venues for Christmas
religious services amid fears of terror attacks. It also says it
will provide security guards at many churches. "We invite our
Christian brothers and sisters to say prayers on Christmas Eve and
to celebrate Christmas in our schools and other buildings," said
Din Syamsuddin, who chairs Muhammadiyah, a conservative Islamic
organisation with millions of members.

FROM THE EDITOR:

I enjoy playing golf in Bogor Lakeside. They have beautiful
facilities. Huge lockers. When I was there last time there was
somebody in the shower next to me loudly clearing his throat,
non-stop, rattling for at least 3 or 4 minutes. In short intervals
he was fiercefully spitting out his phlegm. Maybe it is a kind of
a weird humor from my side, but when this man was standing next to
me in the toilet, a few moment later, I started my own
throat rattling and spitting. At the height of my sick performance
the man looked worried in my direction. I was pretty sure he knew
that I was imitating him as he didn't look friendly. 'Nice lockers
here, eh?' I said to him before I loudly produced one more filthy
phlegm and landed it in the wash bin. The man quickly disappeared.
'Mau renovasi ya Bart?', they asked me while I was
wondering through the BuGils bar checking the ceilings and walls.
'Yes', I said. 'Lockers, Bart! We need lockers!' the
staff shouted in choir. Everybody who has managed a small or
middle seized company has probably experienced to same surprise as
me, to discover how important it is for Indonesian workers to have
lockers. Years ago, government officials came, telling me that I
was not allowed to open business if I didn't buy their fire
extinguishers and if I didn't have lockers. After every
staff review I ask the staff what they think is needed to improve
the business. And the answer is always: lockers. I hired a chef
cook I thought was reasonably westernized, but his first remark
after inspecting his new kitchen was. 'Sorry boss, but where are
the lockers?' AArrggh!!! In staff meetings there is always
somebody who will say: I was in the mall and I saw some really
nice lockers.' Lockers, lockers, lockers...
In BuGils we finally had some wooden lockers made and the girls
where all exhilarated. Until a two meter tall Canadian oil worker
fell backwards from the pool area into the kitchen. His head split
one of the locker doors and his huge bold head was literally
inside the locker. Intoxicated or knocked out he was laying there
for a minute. There was no point in trying to lift him up as his
body was just too big. Now we need new lockers. Metal ones,
was Widi her suggestion.
While BuGils needs renovation, the new
Cazbar
needs maintenance already. The Cazbar neon sign started flickering
after its first day in use. Last night they came to repair it, but
rain was pouring down. It didn't seem to care the worker who was
dangerously maneuvering in between electricity cables above the
Cazbar entrance. I asked the supervisor if it was not safer to
switch off the electricity first. He looked at me with sleepy
eyes. The man then looked up from under his umbrella to his
wet worker and then in my direction again. He made a dry
conclusion. 'Don't worry, mister. He has a towel....'. In
unbelief I stared at the supervisor. 'But he can be electrocuted!'
I warned. 'The supervisor instantly pointed at another
worker who was holding the ladder in the streaming rain. 'He
can do reparation as well...'. The man was not joking. He
was deadly serious....

It's true, dancing does lead to sex
The finding lends support to the idea that dancing is a way to
show off high quality genes and good health - both indicators of a
top quality mate. Charles Darwin was the first to suggest that
dance was a courtship signal in animals, but there had been no
studies of the relation of dance and genetic or physical quality
in humans
until now. Green
