Prayers in Indonesia as looters hinder quake aid
BANTUL,
Indonesia (AFP) - Survivors of the Indonesian earthquake have held
their first prayers since the disaster after
looters raided aid convoys
bringing food and medicines to stranded victims. "Right now
it's the people who are living near the roads who are getting all
the goods. Once you go inside the villages, inside the small
roads, there are places that have nothing," one said.(Yahoo)
Connie Francis performing LIVE in BuGils Cafe
BuGils
Cafe has invited a number of international heroes to perform LIVE
this Saturday. In a show with Elvis (who promised to bring his
'real' jacket), The Bee Gees, James Brown, and Lobo, it now
managed to contract Connie Francis as well. 'It's the start of a
new concept, where the Indonesian look-a-likes have the chance to
perform for an international audience', says the manager.
'It is al about fun. Last week we had Cliff Richard who had to do
Living Doll about 5 times. He was already in his car when
customers still persuaded him to come back on stage and sing it
one more time. He was a hero! Now I receive calls from people that
say: Hi, I am Rod Steward and I wanna play in the BuGils. Even
this morning Janis Joplin called me for the second time. But she
is asking too much. Especially considering that she has been dead
already for an odd 30 years...' BuGils is planning a serious
renovation after the world cup. 'Same concept as the old BuGils
but in a design that fits more 'fun' entertainment',
says the manager.

FROM
THE EDITOR:

Some readers don't like me to write about my
staff. When I heard about this 'complaint' indirectly
through the BuGils staff, I wondered if there was any moment I had
made the staff look ridiculous and went trough some old editions
to check it. I went all the way back to the story of the Brit that
used to buy smelly socks from the waitresses. In an estimated 60 %
percent of the stories, it was the crazy bule in general
who behaved strange. In 30% it was about myself, being fooled by a
carpet cleaner or a government official. A few times I wrote about
a Widi, who wanted to have her daily text message with the
sales report to me re-reimbursed, a Cazbar waitress who
still stares at me every day or an Eni, who
still works in Eastern Promise after a long time customer
suggested I keep some relics from the old EP interior. But Eni
still has her job and because I write about her, many people
come to see her in real life. In a way they are marketing tools
for me, but the most important thing is, they have a job that they
enjoy.
On
the picture: Eni tapping the first beer in the new EP frontbar for
Martin, an ex-Mamma Kitchen regular. Martin is said to be over 300
years old. 'He must be', said fellow regular Bryan. 'He knows
so much about everything, he must be 300 years old...'
Just when I was discussing with Widi comments from a few of the
customers about my newsletter stories, the sock smeller
walked in (read Bule Gila, chapter 49). I hadn't seen
him for a while and greeted him friendly. But he didn't look at
me. He looked around. He was searching for somebody. 'So Heny has
gone, hasn't she?' 'Yes', I replied sadly. Then I realised why he
had not been in for so long. BuGils had no new staff for a
long time, but now with Heny gone, he knew I would hire a
replacement. The Brit had never made a secret of his fetish and
over the years he must have made many a bar waitress happy. Who
doesn't want to receive a one month salary for a few old smelly
socks? Novel was the first to inform the new waitress Marni about
a potential extra income. While Marni her mouth fell wide open in
disbelief, the Brit stretched his hand. 'Hi. What's the seize of
your feet?'. He didn't ask for her name and he didn't ask apa
kabar; he just asked the seize of her feet. Marni
quickly moved outside without saying anything.
The Brit turned to me. 'I have to come back, she wasn't wearing
socks anyway'. Once more he looked around in the crowd. It was a
busy evening. He suddenly saw a girl he knew and started searching
frantically in his mobile phonebook. 'Ah, this must be her.', he
said. 'Now look.". He pushed a number that he had saved under the
name 'seize 42'. It was a good looking girl with long
straight hair, sitting at the bar sipping of a wine. The girl
heard her phone ring and quickly started grabbling in her handbag.
She fished out her mobile, looked at the number for an odd second,
silently shook her head in disgust and then quickly put the phone
back in her handbag. 'I think she still remembers me', the Brit
said with a grim on his face. Even I was too perplexed to say
anything. He ordered a Heineken and moved to the outside terrace.
Through the window I saw him approaching Marni again, but she
literally ran away back inside. It was certainly 30 minutes later
before she dared to come out of the kitchen again. I should bring
this Brit to Eastern Promise, I said to myself. I am sure the
staff there still has some old socks they will be willing to
sell... -- Bartele

Lucky Man Marries Thai Twins
(Translated
from the Thai Rath Newspaper, 24 March)
After
Mr Wichai (Tao), aged 24, from Songkram, who earns his
living by dealing in old goods, got
married to gorgeous twins Ms Sirintara and Ms Thipawan 22, he
vouched his sincerest 'equal love' for both of them.
Mr Wichai got married in pompous
ceremony to both twins
simultaneously. On being
interviewed by the Thai Rath reporters, Mr Wichai declared
wholeheartedly, that he didn't see much problem in having to
perform tiresome marital duties
with two wives. In the
engagement ceremony before the wedding, Mr Wichai successfully
offered a dowry of eight baht of gold
and 80,000 baht EACH for his lovely
darlings.
Both families celebrated the marriage
with joy and were said to be delighted
for the threesome. Mr Wichai told the
press that he had been best of friends with his
neighbouring twins since they were
children. "When I grew older, I
would walk past their house each morning and try to
decide for myself which one I fancied
more, but it was darned impossible - adored BOTH of them - I just
couldn't decide, which one of them to chat
up....!"
He went on to say "For three
continuous years all three of us would go on dates together, until
there was one day when I couldn't stand the
frustration any longer and told them I
love you and want to marry you BOTH "
The fortunate Mr Wichai, instead of
getting a slap in the face, was
overjoyed when both girls admitted to having sworn all along, that
they wished to marry the same man! "
It wasn't easy at first, what with the
neighbours gossiping, but our family
sympathized, understood, and fully
supported our mutual love for the one
man" the twins said.
Mr Wichai arranged for his brides to
live with him, in his family house after the wedding, and his
mother has already proudly prepared TWO rooms for
the newly-weds. Our reporters were
just gagging to hear the response to this mouth-watering
question "And.... what are the
sleeping arrangements Mr Wichai"? to which he
replied modestly with a beaming smile
"Absolutely no problems! For
the first three nights of the week, I will sleep with Ms Thipawan
and the next three will be spent with Ms Sirintara.
As for every Saturday, the three of us
will sleep together" Ms
Sirintara finally told the press "When my twin and I worked as
assistant nurses, we promised
each other that we would never leave each others side,
and that our future husband would have
to either take us both, or leave us"
"Anyway, Mr Wichai is the perfect man
- he neither smokes nor drinks!"

Nick
Wilty is known in the industry as the “Globetrotting Comedian” and
has performed on every continent except Antarctica (because of an
irrational fear of penguins). Nick first appeared at the JCC in
May 2001 and has since been back many times and become a great
friend of the club. He last appeared at the Simon Stannard Tsunami
benefit show in January 2005 and helped raise more than US$50,000
in one night. He was once asked to provide censors in Singapore
with a list of ten topics his act would cover, so he made up a
list on the spot which included “The badger population of
south-east Kent” and “Penguins: Bastards.” This is without doubt
one of the funniest, most popular and best-loved comedians working
the circuit today and it would be pure madness not to see him
while you have the chance.
